ba765ba3f2 test(server): reproduce stale plugin history after rewind

Preserve the manager-level reproduction for #4667 and a file-only
control. A second red case shows that discarded timeline snapshots
also shorten replacement output when an item identity is reused.
These are diagnostic tests; production behavior is unchanged.
