* fix(server): keep diff highlighting responsive and bounded
Tiny patches previously parsed both full source versions synchronously. Yield between parser work units and admit source by UTF-8 bytes, keeping large patches renderable without tokens. Cancel obsolete highlighting when a newer diff supersedes it.
* fix(server): keep diff cancellation with its requester
Independent commit viewers must not cancel each other. Use request-source cancellation for commit highlighting and cache invalidation for checkout highlighting. Oversized source versions use the existing budgeted hunk reconstruction so large lockfiles retain useful syntax tokens.
* fix(files): report document MIME types for binary files
File reads now carry the document's MIME type for binary files, so a file panel can
hand the bytes to a viewer that needs the real type (application/pdf).
* feat(plugins): file panels
Plugins contribute file panels with addFilePanel. A file tab hosts the panels that claim the
file: the built-in Markdown, HTML and image panels, plugin panels, and Source, Paseo's editor,
which claims every text file and is always the last candidate. The panel is the tab body;
the bar shows the document's status and a switcher between the file's panels (side by side
up to three, two on a phone, a menu beyond that).
Paseo asks which panel opens a file only when a plugin panel is among several candidates,
once per open, and remembers the answer per extension or exact filename when told to. Open
with in the tab menu and the switcher change the tab's panel; Always use remembers it.
Opening a file at a line switches the tab to Source.
Panels read and write the host's document, so dirty state, autosave and conflicts stay
Paseo's. DocumentFrame shows bytes documents such as PDFs in the browser's viewer.
Replaces the file tab's Preview/Source mode toggle.
* feat(file-panels): choose and forget file panels in Settings > Files
Settings > Files lists each extension or filename where a plugin panel competes with
another candidate, or that has a remembered panel. Each row chooses the panel that opens
it, or Ask every time; Ask again forgets the choice. Source appears as a candidate for
text files. Panels no connected host offers can be forgotten but not chosen.
* docs(plugins): file panel examples and author reference
Adds the pdf-panel and markdown-panel examples, the File panels section of the plugin
reference, and an e2e spec that installs both examples, opens a PDF in the browser
viewer, and edits Markdown through Paseo's document across the switcher, Source,
autosave and conflicts.
* feat(file-panels): panels read and write through a file handle
The file tab stats the file and mounts its panel without reading it. Every
panel, built-in or plugin, gets a PluginFile handle: readText, readBytes, url,
version-checked writeText/writeBytes (PluginFileConflictError unless force),
and watch. useFileText, useFileBytes and useFileUrl read through it, and
Loading joins @getpaseo/plugin/client/ui. Panels own their loading state.
The host document pipeline, the explorer preview cache and the preview
lifecycle are deleted. The daemon classifies a file version from a bounded
sniff and writes base64 content as bytes behind fileByteWrites.
A deleted file keeps its panel mounted; a read confirms the deletion first,
so a remove-and-rewrite is not reported as one. Native Source decodes with
builtins and highlights in idle-time slices, the lines around the opening
line first, so a large file no longer blocks the JS thread.
* fix(file-panels): Settings offers Source where the picker does, and review follow-ups
- Settings > Files offers Source on every key except those a built-in panel of
another kind (Image) claims, so a plugin that alone claims a text extension
shows the same choices as the picker.
- Delete the unused isSourceFilePanel.
- The Markdown example warns with the file name when its unmount write fails,
rather than dropping the edit silently.
- Document that PluginFile stat fields are read at render time and that watch
or the read hooks are how a panel learns they changed.
* fix(plugins): file events are objects, deletion is a typed error, DocumentFrame owns its fallback
- watch listeners receive { type: "changed" } | { type: "deleted" }, so later
versions can add fields without breaking them.
- PluginFileDeletedError joins PluginFileConflictError. The read hooks report a
deleted file with it, and a write over a deleted file rejects with it; Source
shows that as the deleted notice. PluginFileConflictError now means only
"changed on disk".
- DocumentFrame on Android shows Paseo's "<TYPE> files can't be shown on this
device" message for documents its WebView cannot display, so the PDF example
is useFileUrl + Loading + DocumentFrame with no platform branch.
* test(file-panels): Settings offers Source for a remembered panel no host has
* test(e2e): hide the developer error toast instead of clicking it away
The locator handler that dismissed #error-toast could match a toast that closed before its
click, then wait on it until the test timed out (agent-timeline-resume.spec.ts:45 failed every
attempt on this branch). Hiding the toast with CSS keeps it off app actions with no race.
* test(e2e): desktop browser-tabs hides developer toasts on its attached page
* fix(highlight): render Astro diffs containing empty expressions
Empty Astro expressions produced zero-length nested JavaScript ranges, which rejected the whole diff. Leave those expressions in the markup tree and preserve highlighting around them.
* test(highlight): make empty Astro expression assertions explicit

An Astro { } expression containing a template string inside ${} closed at
the first } in that nested string, leaving the rest of the expression
uncolored. Astro and Vue now share one scanner for embedded JavaScript,
which already skips template substitutions.

* fix(highlight): add syntax highlighting support for Vue (.vue) files
* fix(highlight): use Vue-aware mixed-language parsing for .vue SFCs
* fix(highlight): make Vue interpolation boundary quote-aware and brace-balanced
The interpolation scanner matched the closing '}}' with a plain
indexOf, so expressions containing '}}' inside strings or nested
object literals ({{ { a: 1 }}}) cut the expression short. Find the
closing delimiter only at brace depth 0, skipping strings, comments,
and regexes like the existing block scanners do.
* fix(highlight): satisfy lint complexity limits in vue parser
Split nestedLanguage into templateOverlay/directiveOverlay/scriptOverlay
and drop the unused findClosingBrace helper. Behavior unchanged.
* fix(highlight): keep an empty {{}} from breaking Vue highlighting
An empty interpolation gave the expression parser a zero-length range,
which Lezer rejects, so the whole file fell back to plain text.

* fix(highlight): color quoted Vue directive values and nested template strings
A quoted directive value went to the expression parser with its quotes,
so it parsed as one string. A template string nested inside ${} ended at
its inner backtick, so a }} inside it closed the interpolation early.

The Nix grammar package imports @codemirror/autocomplete at the top level
for its keyword snippets, but only declares it as a peer dependency.
electron-builder packs node_modules by walking declared production
dependencies, so it omitted the package from app.asar and the desktop
daemon died on startup with ERR_MODULE_NOT_FOUND. Dev and CI never saw it
because the workspace hoists everything.
This is the same failure that just shipped for Svelte, and the previous
fix removed @codemirror/autocomplete on the assumption Svelte was its only
consumer. Vendoring both remaining grammars removes the class of bug
rather than the current instance: these packages are interactive editor
extensions, so importing one drags a DOM editor runtime into a headless
token highlighter.
The vendored language modules keep upstream's indent and fold props. The
web file editor consumes getLanguageForFile().extension, so dropping them
would have silently degraded editing for .nix and .cs.
The new dependency-closure test replicates electron-builder's traversal
statically and would have failed both PRs. It is scoped to
@getpaseo/highlight because that tree is small and pure; the same walk
over the server tree is dominated by false positives from optional
dependencies loaded behind try/catch.
* fix(highlight): highlight Svelte components
`.svelte` had no entry in the extension table, so `highlightCode` fell through
to one unstyled token per line. That is the same table the file pane, the diff
tokens, markdown fences and the web editor all resolve through, so a component
rendered as plain text everywhere in the app.
Register `@replit/codemirror-lang-svelte`. Its `svelteLanguage` already wires
the mixed parsing for the `<script>` and `<style>` blocks, so the script gets
JS/TS roles, the style block gets CSS roles, and the template gets tag,
directive and mustache roles. It comes from the same publisher as the
`@replit/codemirror-lang-csharp` entry already in this package, and only the
grammar itself is declared: its CodeMirror peers resolve the same way the C#
grammar's peers already do.
* test(server): cover Svelte diff highlighting
The review surface in the issue is the diff, and the daemon is what tokenizes
it (`diff-highlighter.ts` calls `highlightCode`), so the regression belongs
here too: script, template block and markup roles on a `.svelte` hunk.
* feat(files): edit workspace files on web
Keep source buffers synchronized with host file changes and require an explicit overwrite or reload when revisions diverge.
* feat(panels): surface and protect modified tabs
Expose tooltip and modification state through the generic panel boundary so tabs can show stable metadata and guard every close route consistently.
* fix(tests): use portable fake timeout handle
* fix(files): harden editor conflict handling
Preserve modified panel state across tab eviction, use precise revisions for optimistic writes, coalesce concurrent file watchers, and localize the editor interface.
* fix(files): close editor concurrency gaps
Coalesce clean reloads, preserve subscriber identities and file permissions, suspend pending saves during close confirmation, and carry precise revisions through file reads.
* test(files): expect read revision metadata
Wire the @replit/codemirror-lang-csharp Lezer grammar into @getpaseo/highlight following the existing per-language pattern (Java/Rust/Swift). Map the cs extension to the parser and alias the csharp and c# markdown fence names so fenced code blocks highlight.
Register csharpLanguage.parser rather than the package's raw parser export: the highlight styleTags are applied only inside csharpLanguage (via parser.configure), so the raw parser would parse but render unstyled.

Keep parsed chat and tool detail content in sync with appearance token changes. Hide font-family controls on native, use One as the default syntax theme, add Swift highlighting, and give Nord a distinct light palette.
* Add appearance settings for theme, fonts, and syntax highlighting
New Appearance section in Settings to configure the app theme, UI and
mono font family + size, and a syntax-highlighting theme chosen
independently of light/dark. Font family fields default to empty and
show the active system stack as the placeholder; a live split-diff
preview reflects the choices as they change. The theme picker moves
here from General.
Preferences are client-only (AsyncStorage) and applied at runtime by
patching every registered Unistyles theme via
UnistylesRuntime.updateTheme, so existing StyleSheet consumers repaint
with no per-component preference reads and no useUnistyles. No
daemon/protocol change.
* Expand syntax themes and move the preview under the chooser
Replace the small fixed syntax-theme set with eight popular themes — GitHub,
Catppuccin, Dracula, Tokyo Night, One, Nord, Gruvbox, Solarized — built from a
compact per-theme role palette. The app theme and syntax theme stay separate;
the only coupling is the light/dark axis: a theme with both variants uses its
light palette on a light app and its dark palette on a dark app, while the code
frame (gutter, line numbers, background) keeps following the app theme. Default
is now GitHub (GitHub keeps its existing hand-tuned maps for an exact match).
Move the live preview directly under the syntax-theme chooser, drop the
"preview.ts" filename header, and use a clearer code snippet for it.
* Update settings e2e for the moved theme picker and Appearance section
The theme picker moved from General to the new Appearance section, so the
General-content assertion no longer finds "Theme" — point it at "Default send"
(which stays in General) and add Appearance to the e2e section map plus an
expectAppearanceContent check, and exercise the Appearance section in the
sidebar-navigation test.
* Render the appearance preview as a unified diff
Switch the live preview from side-by-side columns to a single unified diff:
unchanged context lines plus "-"/"+" rows for the change, matching how diffs
read elsewhere in the app. Same snippet, mono font, syntax colors, and live
code-font draft behavior.
* Fix code font size change shrinking all UI text
applyAppearance scaled the live (already-patched) theme ramp instead of the
authored FONT_SIZE ramp, so it was not idempotent: every appearance change
re-scaled the current sizes, compounding the whole-UI font scale. With any
non-default UI size, changing the code size — or any setting — shrank (or grew)
all app text, and it persisted into the theme. Build the ramp from the canonical
FONT_SIZE ramp each apply (code size still set absolutely), so applies are
idempotent and a code-size change never touches the UI ramp.
* Apply the interface font across the app on web
react-native-web stamps a default font onto every text element, so the interface
font only reached the few components that set a font explicitly. Inject one rule
that points all text at a CSS variable (updated live as the setting changes),
with high specificity (1,2,0) so it deterministically beats RN-web's base font
and Unistyles' generated classes — no stylesheet-order fragility. Code, diff, and
monospace surfaces carry a `data-pmono` marker (and their subtrees are excluded),
so they keep their code font.
Web-only: React Native has no global font cascade, so native still applies the UI
font only where components opt in. Inline `code` within chat prose is a known
minor gap (its render paths aren't tagged yet).
* Keep preview code in the code font
* Apply code font settings to terminals
* Fix settings host picker import after rebase
* Format terminal webview bundle
- Create packages/highlight with shared Lezer-based syntax highlighting (types, parsers, highlighter, color maps)
- Add syntax highlighting and line numbers to file-pane.tsx with memoized CodeLine component
- Import shared highlight colors in git-diff-pane.tsx instead of local definitions
- Delete duplicated syntax-highlighter.ts from both app and server
- Fix TSX dialect to "ts jsx" (correct per Lezer docs)
