* feat(keyboard): support hardware keyboards on iPad
Register app shortcuts as iOS UIKeyCommands so a paired hardware keyboard
drives the same bindings as web and desktop. Overlays (menus, comboboxes,
modals, command center) get first refusal on bare keys, and a focused
terminal keeps the keys it needs.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* docs(keyboard): record iOS hardware key observation spike
With a UITextView focused on iPad Pro M4/iOS 18.6, window and controller observers received Cmd+B, Cmd+P and Escape. Escape also invoked UIKeyCommand when registered, so the stream must be the sole emitter. Use observation for shortcuts and commands only for text-control ownership. Simulator intercepted Cmd+K as HID184; input capture blocked synthetic typing entirely. Keep capture off and verify the toggle via a rebind during simulator QA.
* refactor(keyboard): give overlays one key registration API
Overlay ownership now follows one layer-ordered registry on every runtime. Web retains focus trapping and restoration through its adapter; native registers the same key handler without a DOM scope. Picker navigation and dismissal no longer require a parallel native stack.

* feat(keyboard): route native hardware keys through the shared resolver
Observe each physical press once, including native modal windows, and derive focus from declared composer and terminal surfaces. Native bindings and rebinds now use the same resolver and overlay precedence as browser and Electron input.
Co-authored-by: jeroenfrenken <16974549+jeroenfrenken@users.noreply.github.com>
* feat(keyboard): show shortcuts when hardware keyboards are present
Keep routing independent of compact layout and detect hardware capability for hints and settings. Rebind capture uses the shared overlay interface on native too. Keep the filtered sidebar model available for keyboard navigation while its panel is hidden.

* test(keyboard): allow shortcut hints in compact menu assertions
Compact menus now display hardware keyboard hints. Assert action labels, order and uniqueness without treating a trailing shortcut badge as part of the action label.
* fix(keyboard): retain an overlay's opening layer in state
Capture the registry's current top when an overlay opens and retain that layer through rerenders. React Compiler removed the previous useMemo cache after the registry getter moved across modules, allowing a parent modal to rise above its child and start an infinite focus loop.
Compile this hook in Vitest as Expo does. The new hook regression failed first with layer 220 instead of 20, then passed with explicit opening state. Focused unit and browser tests pass, and the previously failing onboarding E2E completes through the real Expo compiler. Typecheck, lint and format pass.
* refactor(keyboard): let overlays own native hardware input
Remove the TextInput key handlers that duplicate declared overlay arrows and Escape in Add Project and Command Center. Remove Add Project's hidden responder now that native window sources observe keys without it. Keep soft-keyboard submit editing behavior.
* fix(keyboard): close Add Project outside its state updater
Root Escape previously called the parent close action from a React state updater, producing a cross-component render warning when navigation was still queued. Compute the previous page in the event handler and close outside the updater.
The existing Escape/Back E2E now batches navigation and dismissal through the DOM key source. It failed first with the AddProjectFlowHost render warning, then passed after the correction. Typecheck, lint and format pass; native Escape checks pass on Android and iPad.
* fix(keyboard): preserve Android dead-key composition
* fix(keyboard): recognize focused native text inputs
* test(keyboard): replace JSDOM coverage with browser tests
* refactor(menu): spell out arrow navigation branches
* fix(composer): claim fullscreen Escape on native
* refactor(composer): one fullscreen Escape module for every platform
The shared registration lived in fullscreen-exit.shared.ts with two one-line
re-exports (fullscreen-exit.ts and fullscreen-exit.native.ts). Metro needs no
native override now that the Android back button is its own adapter, so the
implementation moves into fullscreen-exit.ts and the browser test imports the
module every platform resolves.

* feat(app): add first-run setup modal
New users landed on an empty "Add a project" screen and never found
providers, Paseo tools or phone pairing, which all live in Settings. A
one-time setup modal now walks them through Appearance, Providers,
Projects, Orchestration and Phone. Every step renders the same component
Settings uses, so changing something in setup changes it in Settings too.
The modal opens only when the setup host is connected, its workspaces have
loaded and it has no projects. Existing users already have projects, so
they never see it after upgrading and no migration is needed. Finishing or
skipping writes `@paseo:onboarding` on this client. It uses its own key
because it records feature state, and e2e specs replace app settings
wholesale. Settings > General > "Show setup again" reopens the modal on
step 1. Native phones skip the modal for now.
Shared pieces moved out so setup and Settings render the same thing:
- ThemePicker is a tile grid and replaces the Settings theme dropdown.
- PaseoToolsCard is extracted from the host page.
- The skeleton pulse moves to components/ui. Provider rows show it while
the first snapshot loads instead of "Loading…".
- The pair-device direct-connection hint links to the Tailscale docs.
The e2e fixture marks setup completed by default so existing specs keep
their starting state. The desktop smoke and lifecycle scripts, which start
from a fresh daemon, mark it before they continue.
* feat(onboarding): suggest projects from agent history
The setup's Projects step lists the repos the user already ran agents in,
with busy recent ones preselected, so a new user adds their projects in one
click instead of browsing for folders. With rows checked, the footer's main
button adds them and only moves on once every one was added; a checked row
always means "this will be added".
The daemon resolves each session folder to its project root (main checkout
for worktrees, repo root for subfolders) because only it can read the git
state; the app asks once per provider so a slow or broken provider never
holds up the others and can be retried on its own. Hosts without the
projectSuggestions feature show only the Add project button.
Onboarding e2e hosts read an empty Claude history with other providers
off, so suggestions never depend on the machine running the tests.
* fix(onboarding): keep late project adds on their step and show Retry early
- A finished add only advances setup while the Projects step is still open.
- A failed provider shows its Retry as soon as any provider answers.
- The desktop lifecycle check no longer reloads the window: setup never opens
there because no host is connected.
* fix(onboarding): bind late project adds to their step visit and freeze rows while adding
- Each step visit has an id; a finished add only advances the visit that started it,
so leaving and returning to Projects, or reopening setup, ignores it.
- Suggestion rows are disabled while their batch is being added.
* test(app): drive theme selection through the tile picker
Settings → Appearance no longer has a theme dropdown. The Escape test opens the
syntax theme dropdown instead, and the Android system-bars check taps theme tiles.
* fix(server): return project suggestion roots in the form project.add stores
Git reports Windows repo roots with forward slashes, so an added suggestion kept
showing because its path never matched the new project's root.
* feat(app): two control sizes, orchestration switches and mobile connect choices in setup
Controls had four sizes picked per call site, so a button in a dialog, a
settings row and a setup step came out at different heights. Controls now
have two: md (default; 32px with a pointer, 44px in the compact layout so
phone controls are full touch targets) and sm (28px, for tight chrome and
nested settings rows). The breakpoint picks md's height, not the caller.
Setup:
- Orchestration is three switches (Paseo tools, agent skills, CLI), all on,
applied on Continue. Turning one off undoes it; the desktop CLI uninstall
removes only the file this app installed.
- The Mobile step has store buttons and a "Choose how to connect" section:
Relay opens the existing pairing modal, Tailscale opens the docs.
Settings section docs links are one pattern, SettingsSection's `link` prop,
and modals sit on surface0 like a screen.
The vitest unistyles stub now resolves breakpoint values by window width,
as Unistyles does at runtime; without it md controls had no height in
browser tests.
* fix(app): finish setup on its last step and confirm undoing orchestration
In the compact layout Orchestration is the last step, and Finish closed
setup without applying its switches. The last step's work now runs before
Finish, the same as Continue.
Turning off skills now asks first, as Settings does. Removing the CLI keeps
a paseo command this app didn't install and says so. A failed Paseo tools
update shows a toast. Adding suggested projects no longer advances when a
row was checked while the add ran.
Chat sender attribution and the message preview toggle go back to the sm
button: md padding is a breakpoint value, and on web its media-query rule
beat the zero right padding that aligns the sender with its bubble.
* fix(app): ignore a late Finish once the user left the last setup step
Finish called complete(), which ignored the step visit, so pressing Back
while Orchestration applied its choices still closed setup and recorded it
as done. next(visit) now finishes setup from the last step, so a late
Finish is dropped the same way a late Continue already was.
* fix(app): hold the skills switch while setup applies its choices
The Paseo tools and CLI switches were disabled while Continue or Finish
applied them, but the skills switch only locked while a skills operation
ran. With skills needing no change, it stayed editable during a pending
tools update and the new value was silently dropped.
* fix(app): read setup's skills choice as off when no skill is picked
Saving an empty selection in the skills picker left setup's skills switch
on. Continue then asked the host to install nothing, the host reported
skills as not installed, and the step stayed put with no error. Setup now
reads skills as off with nothing picked, as Settings does.
Keep editor choices local to each project and shared across its worktrees. Reuse the Xcode target contribution while preserving explicit editor selection.

* feat(hosts): connect to saved hosts through a daemon
* fix(hosts): validate safe targets and verify encrypted relay routes
* test(hosts): include relay coverage in existing CI contracts
* fix(cli): preserve validated addresses in daemon command hints
* fix(hosts): share daemon links across isolated routed sessions
Multiplex logical sessions over the monitored daemon connection and wrap original binary bytes in routing headers. Admit channels under their authenticated parent and current grants; preserve scoped delivery and physical send completion.
* fix(hosts): bound encrypted overload and initial acquisition
Check encrypted wire capacity before the async channel converts a resource limit into a physical connection error. Bound initial routed acquisition with the existing client timeout, then enable reconnect after admission.
* fix(hosts): keep compact row actions clear of host labels
Give compact connected-host rows separate text and action widths so long names and producer labels cannot compete with primary controls.
* refactor(hosts): remove management settings UI from phase one
Keep connected-host management in the CLI and shared SDK while preserving app saved connections and plugin access.
* test(hosts): control physical write backpressure across platforms
Hold real TCP writes until assertions finish instead of assuming a paused receiver exhausts every platform receive buffer. Preserve physical send settlement, byte identity, capacity and sibling checks.
* refactor(hosts): use the ordinary client contract over channel transports
Keep queuing, permission codes and reconnection independent of transport selection. Track submitted request outcomes generically while retaining connection error codes and structured causes.
* test(e2e): keep transient developer toasts from stalling checks
Concurrent locator handlers can wait for a dismiss button another handler removed. Dismiss existing toast DOM at document lifetime, including its open shadow root, without intercepting app actions.
* Create, prompt, and monitor agents across connected hosts (#7507)
* feat(hosts): delegate agents across connected hosts
Resolve MCP host operations through in-process commands for self and the existing routed client transport for other destinations. Keep ordinary parent labels, app sessions and idle finish notifications.
* test(app): normalize subagent fixtures through snapshots
* docs(protocol): clarify same-host parent labels
* fix(hosts): resolve subagents through destination sessions
A child address identifies its destination regardless of the connection used. Reuse the existing host candidate selection for discovered routes and direct connections, and keep navigation and row actions independent of the parent transport.
* fix(hosts): keep routed destinations distinct during discovery
A routed candidate names only the origin daemon. Match it within the named destination profile so two destinations discovered through the same origin retain separate identities and connections, including existing saved routes.
* feat(hosts): prompt and query agents on selected hosts
Extend the existing MCP host operation boundary with prompt, status, activity and list operations. Local calls retain their handlers and notification owner; selected destinations use ordinary client RPCs and the existing idle finish wait.
* test(e2e): preserve toast coverage with CSS hiding
* docs(hosts): translate connected host references
* Upgrade to Expo 57 and unify Explorer across layouts
* feat(app): retain Explorer across layout and appearance changes
Keep one workspace Explorer host and destination-aware navigation so folding, theme updates and compact sheets preserve the current panel. Scope pull request discovery and timeline demand to active surfaces.
* fix(app): keep Explorer resize handles stretched through the dock
The shared frame moved the divider into an absolute column, leaving its horizontal handle without height. Restore the row so pointer drags reach it, preserving the existing resize and performance contract.
* fix(app): keep Explorer drag widths out of the shared stylesheet
Carry the existing inline sizing policy into the shared frame so pointer previews do not accumulate CSS rules.
* fix(test): align isolated test runtimes with Expo 57
Hoisted React consumers need the matching DOM renderer at the repository root. Automated Metro processes must not install native DevTools into disposable homes, and development toast overlays must not cover compact actions.
Keep Explorer journeys on the shared host and synchronize setup fixtures on daemon output rather than a one-second file-marker window. A delayed real child start reproduces the readiness failure on every platform.
* fix(test): await retained shell layout after composer resize
The gesture host now stays mounted across breakpoints, so its presence no longer identifies compact layout. Report the current layout on the retained host and synchronize composer journeys with that state.
* fix(app): preserve browser interactions in retained workspace hosts
Initially disabled gesture hosts still registered pointer and wheel listeners, while hover cards used window positions inside a workspace-local sheet portal. Respect initial gesture enablement and position cards relative to their measured floating host.
Keep developer-toast dismissal independent of pointer input and replacement toast visibility so modal, hover, and focus checks retain their input state.
* fix(test): share developer toast handling with Electron browser runs
The standalone Electron browser runner bypassed the browser fixture, allowing developer errors to cover Settings. Use the same non-pointer dismissal in both runners while retaining their console logs.
* Keep pairing QR code within compact tile
* Move pairing screenshot after viewport assertion
* test(pairing): verify the complete QR code on Android
The native regression failed with the fixed-size SVG because the code was clipped at both screen edges. Verify the complete square and visible margins through the Android app, and keep browser geometry assertions in the pairing helper.

* feat(auth): authenticate daemon clients through hello
Give local CLI and desktop clients a per-run credential while remote clients send the host password inside the protocol. Keep relay passwordless admission for this mobile release so existing saved hosts keep working until the follow-up enforcement release.
Move password recovery for saved hosts into host settings and keep pairing credentials in the add flow. Include isolated web QA evidence for both flows.
* fix(auth): preserve Hub bootstrap and local credential expectations
Hub-owned sockets already carry admission; keep their hello handling synchronous through session bootstrap while resolving credentials asynchronously for ordinary sockets. Keep the resolver out of lightweight configuration imports.
Update CLI expectations for same-home credentials, let a rejected connection yield to another usable connection, and clear pairing secrets when add-flow targets change.
* fix(pairing): retain passwords across edits to the same target
Track the last valid pairing host while a URI is edited. This preserves an entered password for whitespace and partial edits but clears it when a different host becomes the target.
* test(auth): align local credential checks across platforms
Expect the CLI to authenticate through the credential in its selected home, and verify POSIX file modes only where Node exposes them.
* feat(app): move host password into a settings row with a modal
The host page rendered an always-visible password form above Name on every
host. Replace it with a Password row under a Security section below
Appearance; tapping it opens a modal with Save and, when a password is saved,
Clear. The connection-error callout keeps its guidance and gains a Set
password button that opens the same modal. Drop the unused
pairing.hostPassword body/reopen/saveError strings.
* chore: remove committed QA screenshots
QA evidence stays out of the repository; the PR body describes it in words.
* feat(app): keep the host password out of the host page
The saved password is connection data, entered only when a host is added. A
Password setting on the host page reads as the daemon's own password, so the
row, modal, and callout button are gone. A rejected host shows the daemon's
reason with guidance to remove the host and add it again with the password.
useHostMutations no longer exposes setHostPassword; relay imports still set it
inside the runtime.
* feat(app): show host connection errors in an error alert
HostConnectionError renders the existing Alert with the connection error as
its title. Auth rejections add the re-add guidance as the description; other
errors show the title only. The Overview and Connections pages share it.
* style(app): soften alert borders to half-opacity accent
* feat(app): size alerts on the button scale
Alert takes a size prop (xs/sm/md/lg, default md) whose geometry lives next to
the button's in control-geometry: one font size for title and description, the
button icon size centered on the first text line, button padding and radius,
and a one-line alert as tall as the button of the same size. Consumers pick
sm among settings rows, cards, panels, and modals, and md when the alert is
the whole page or sheet state.
* style(app): roomier, rounder alerts with a tight title block
Alert sm padding returns to the original 12/16 and every size is at least
borderRadius.xl. Title and description sit a small gap apart with no line
height override. The icon slot carries a zero-width text strut in the alert's
font so the icon centers on the first line for titled, title-only, and
description-only alerts.
* refactor(app): align the alert icon with a centered lead row
Drop the zero-width strut. The icon and the alert's first text (title, else
description) share one row centered on each other; the description and actions
sit below, indented by the icon slot width plus gap so they start at the lead
text's left edge.
* refactor(app): drop the unused Alert icon override
* fix(desktop): preserve Linux sandboxing wherever the host allows it
Chromium checks its Linux sandbox before main.js, while package installation probes run as root and miss AppArmor restrictions on desktop users. Choose the launch flags before exec and always install the SUID alternative for native packages. Test published artifacts as an ordinary user with namespaces both denied and allowed; never repair permissions in the smoke harness.
* fix(desktop): retain the Linux release build baseline
* fix(ci): allow canceled desktop smoke uploads to stop
* test(desktop): verify the installed RPM sandbox under AppArmor
* fix(ci): resolve packaged desktop dependencies before installation
* chore(desktop): keep QA evidence out of the repository
* fix(daemon): keep lifecycle operations on the selected instance
Restart reconstructed launch inputs and address fallback could redirect a home-selected shutdown to another daemon. Let supervisors publish bound endpoints, retain their worker restart contract, and share captured local lifecycle ownership between CLI and Desktop.
* test(daemon): verify bounded desktop readiness and cancellable artifacts
* test(cli): verify reload target hints and durable offline pairing
* test(daemon): align lifecycle fixtures with ownership and targeting
* fix(daemon): preserve reachability when status details time out
Provider discovery can outlast a status request after authentication succeeds. Keep local connection facts separate from unavailable details, while explicit remote queries retain their error outcome.
Migrate CLI and packaged Desktop fixtures to persistent managed configuration and explicit targets. Isolate generic Git observation from forge discovery and reuse disposable CLI homes on Windows.
* test(daemon): observe restart through the worker status RPC
The bounded CLI status observation may omit worker details while an authenticated connection remains healthy. Exercise the app-style restart through its full RPC and retain the replacement observation, with a real slow provider probe covering the distinction.
Give each observation a server-issued ID owned by its physical connection. Preserve snapshot-only reads and combined list-and-subscribe, source-bound replies, lifecycle cleanup and legacy wire compatibility.
What's new opens an adaptive sheet — bottom sheet on compact, centred card on
desktop — that fetches CHANGELOG.md from the repository and renders it with the
app's own chrome. The desktop update callout, the sidebar help menu, and a new
row in Settings → About all open it; the sheet header links out to
paseo.sh/changelog.
The parser commits to two facts only: `##` starts a release and `###` starts a
section. Section titles are read from the document rather than matched against a
list, and everything under a section passes through verbatim to the Markdown
renderer, so a future callout, block quote, code fence or image needs no parser
change. Fences are tracked because a fenced sample is the one thing that can
fool a line scan.
The document is fetched rather than bundled because the app has to describe a
release that shipped after it was built, which is the update callout's whole
purpose. It goes straight to the repository rather than through a host: the
notes describe the app, and routing them through a daemon would make them
depend on which host happens to be connected. Nothing is fetched or parsed
until the sheet opens.
The latest release renders as soon as there is one and the rest of the first
page follows in a transition, so React slices that work around the opening
animation instead of committing hundreds of list items at once.
* feat(plugins): contribute settings screens and shared controls
* fix(plugins): localize settings and verify shared UI consumers
* test(composer): unmount draft test roots after each case
* test(app): keep launch terminals alive until cleanup
The fixed ten-second profile lifetime could expire before a busy CI browser attached or finished revisiting the composer. Keep the real process waiting for input until project teardown terminates it.
* test(server): await the initial snapshot before a buffered ref event
Watcher setup can read checkout facts before the initial refresh publishes a snapshot. Wait for publication before injecting the event so the test consistently exercises a second refresh.
* fix(desktop): restore macOS app updates
Electron 41's Squirrel helper can leave the update handoff dormant on current macOS, so Paseo quits cleanly but relaunches the old bundle. Electron 44 wakes ShipIt through its XPC service.
Include updater lifecycle events and ShipIt state in app diagnostics so future handoff failures identify the current version, target version, cache paths, and installer output.
* fix(desktop): harden updater diagnostics
Keep each ShipIt file's evidence available when another read fails, carry the service-selected version into updater lifecycle logs, and make clean workspace installs resolve the Electron runtime used by desktop tests.
* refactor(desktop): name updater install options
* refactor(desktop): name updater log payloads
* refactor(desktop): name clipboard payload
* fix(desktop): surface updater lookup failures
* test(desktop): await guest focus transition
* fix(desktop): guard macOS update compatibility
* test(release): validate desktop manifests before publish
* test(desktop): await populated daemon pid file
Add transport-only SSH connectivity for the CLI and Electron desktop through the user's OpenSSH configuration. Remote installation and daemon lifecycle remain explicit, separate operations.
Preserve actionable SSH failure details when the proxy socket closes before the SSH child exits.

A pairing offer remains valid across daemon restarts, so remove the incorrect rotation guidance and warn users where the durable credential is displayed.
* feat(app): let the file panel close its tree rail
The file panel's tree rail was permanent on desktop — the changes panel
had a folder-tree toggle in its toolbar, the file toolbar had nothing, so
the rail was there whether you wanted it or not.
The changes panel's private DesktopTreeToggle becomes a shared
TreeRailToggle so both toolbars render the same affordance; that also
drops the treeToggleStyle prop threaded through ChangesToolbarProps,
which recomputed exactly what the component already built internally.
The i18n keys move out of workspace.git.diff into workspace.tree, since a
shared component reaching into the git namespace would rot.
The two rails keep independent flags — the file rail in panel-store, the
changes rail in useChangesPreferences — so closing one leaves the other
alone. FileTreeToggle wires itself to the store rather than taking a
callback: the bar renders several components below FilePanel, where the
rail actually lives.
Both rails also get narrower (320 -> 260 default, 200 -> 180 minimum).
The persist version bump resets treeRailWidth on purpose: nearly every
existing install carries the old 320 default, so without the reset the
narrower rail would only ever reach new users. Anyone who dragged their
rail to a deliberate custom width loses it once.
Note that MIN_CONTENT_WIDTH still clamps the rail to
`containerWidth - 240`, so in a narrow pane the new default never
applies — that floor, not the default, is what sets the width there.
* feat(app): make the side panel an empty workspace surface
The fixed, hideable side panel keeps supporting context beside an agent without seeding content. Pane-local choices stay local, while implicit supporting opens follow a persisted routing preference.
* test(app): exercise side panel policy through its capability boundary
The browser rail journey already covers the real tree-toggle behavior. Side-panel policy tests now pass their platform capability through the public boundary instead of replacing a production module.
* test(app): expect an empty side panel after upgrade
* test(app): expect an empty first split pane
* test(app): account for the empty side panel in split retention
* feat(app): make workspace panel tabs independent
Give explicit New actions fresh tab instances, keep panel state opaque to tab management, preserve File navigation context, and stabilize uncached File transitions.
* fix(app): preserve file conflicts during preview refresh
Keep the current preview mounted for same-target reads and conversions so the editor retains its conflict observation state. Clear retained previews only when the file target changes.
observePullRequest used to reveal and focus the explorer pane, and the persisted focus leak then made ambient tab opens (sidebar agent clicks, reconcile auto-open) insert agent tabs into the explorer pane while the main pane sat empty.
PR detection now only background-adds the PR tab to the explorer pane, with no reveal and no focus change, so a tab the user already opened elsewhere stays where it is.
Placement policy is centralized in workspace-layout-actions.ts (resolvePlacementPane / insertNewTabIntoPane): explicit paneId wins, and ambient entity opens (agent, provider_subagent, terminal, draft, browser) reroute from the explorer pane to the primary pane. explorerPaneId is a required input so callers cannot silently fail open.
Pane-rail + affordances thread explicit paneId instead of focus-then-open.
The explorer companion pane retention commit (de9e85862) auto-opens the
setup progress tab into the hidden explorer pane. toggleWorkspaceExplorerPane
only seeded the working_diff (Changes) tab when the pane was completely
empty, so once the setup tab landed there, clicking the explorer toggle
could never surface Changes/Files again via that pane's default tab.
Also fixes two e2e testid locators (workspace-new-tab-menu-trigger) and
one unit test assertion (browser automation handler) that assumed a bare
pane root, which predates that same explorer-pane-retention change: the
workspace root is now always a group with a hidden companion pane, so
unscoped locators/assertions must target the visible/named pane.
* fix(app): preserve IME composition in form inputs
Form model publication was replaying changing default text into the native or DOM editing surface. Keep the editing surface authoritative, defer web publication until composition commits, and reserve resetKey changes for explicit text replacement.
* refactor(app): centralize text editing authority
Route every app text field, including the composer and plugin runtime, through one platform-owned editing primitive. Its type and runtime reject controlled value replay, its command handle owns programmatic replacement, and lint prevents raw React Native TextInput imports outside the boundary.
* fix(app): restore composer placeholder styling
* feat(skills): manage orchestration skills per host
Agent skills execute on the daemon host, so their bundle, selection, and filesystem convergence must share that owner. Preserve the existing install semantics while letting every capable client manage the selected host and migrating the legacy desktop preference once.
* fix(client): keep skill management internal
Keep host skill management on the low-level daemon client used by the app. Do not expose daemon settings or the desktop-only compatibility migration through the shared Paseo API handed to plugins.
* fix(e2e): declare skills fixture dependencies
Use Playwright's required destructuring form for the test-scoped daemon sandbox fixture so CI can collect the real-host skills suite.
* test(skills): use native managed paths
Assert fixed skill targets relative to the daemon user's real home with platform-native path joining so the ownership contract holds on Windows and POSIX hosts.
Treat the appearance setting as the rendered base size so the type ramp scales predictably. Native starts one pixel larger while web and desktop preserve the authored 14px base, with legacy values migrated on load.
The editor was trapped below the resident webview's body-level paint plane in split layouts. Render it through the shared overlay root while tracking the owning pane's bounds.
* fix(desktop): keep element selectors available on loaded pages
Annotate element and Screenshot element returned early when a cached load signal said the guest was not ready, even if the current document was complete and executable. Let executeJavaScript own the readiness boundary and keep selector cleanup available in the same stale-signal state.
Extend the real Electron browser regression to reproduce the complete-document/stale-signal mismatch through both toolbar actions.
* test(desktop): await browser selector injection
Poll the guest selector state through the browser bridge instead of assuming injection completes within 250 ms. This keeps the Electron regression deterministic on slower CI hosts.
* Harden browser selector session lifecycle
* Keep selector E2E fixtures independent
* fix(desktop): harden selector and annotation lifecycle
* fix(desktop): keep selector PR focused
* refactor(desktop): own element selector lifecycle

* fix(app): validate persisted client state
Persisted replica data could satisfy TypeScript through an assertion while missing fields required by renderers. Treat every AsyncStorage value as untrusted input, clear values that fail strict schemas, and version the replica DTO so incompatible caches cannot hydrate.
* fix(app): preserve validated legacy state
* fix(app): preserve validated preferences
Preserve supported legacy location fields and every shipped theme while keeping unknown persisted fields rejected. Align browser test seeds with the current preference shape so strict validation exercises the intended provider.
* fix(app): migrate legacy agent preferences
Released clients stored host/location fields and per-provider thinkingOptionId together. Migrate those exact strict bytes into current preferences without admitting unknown fields.
* fix(app): preserve drafts with legacy reviews
Accept the exact strict shape released for workspace review attachments so migration can discard that obsolete attachment without clearing every persisted draft.
* fix(desktop): restore direct LAN connections
Desktop 0.3.0 routed remote WebSockets through the Electron main process, causing previously working macOS LAN connections to fail with EHOSTUNREACH. Revert custom direct headers and restore the renderer WebSocket path used before the regression.
* fix(app): replace host connections by identity
Keep one connection per stable ID when TLS or password settings change. This preserves the current-main upsert invariant while the custom-header rollback removes the unrelated transport feature.
Restore desktop notification sounds by default, add a persisted Play sound setting, and group notification permission and testing in a dedicated Notifications section.
* fix(desktop): preserve browser tabs across focus changes
Electron can replace a guest WebContents when a webview is reparented, which reloads the page and can race automation against a destroyed target. Keep each browser guest on one permanent paintable surface and make user and agent resizing share one canonical viewport.
* fix(desktop): recover browser surfaces after lifecycle changes
* fix(desktop): preserve resident browser lifecycle state
* fix(desktop): seed inactive browser viewport
* fix(ci): skip unrelated required checks cleanly
Matrix jobs had to start no-op runners to preserve interpolated required-check names. Static named jobs let GitHub report genuine skipped conclusions while keeping those names stable.

Own browser specs, desktop specs, and Electron-only app code by stable directories so PR routing does not depend on filename conventions. Keep desktop integration coverage inside the required desktop check.

* fix(relay): refresh pairing state across transports
* fix(onboard): honor explicit relay opt-out
* fix(relay): surface transport startup failures
* fix(pairing): gate offers for older daemons

* fix(relay): synchronize config during daemon startup
* fix(relay): preserve mutability for ignored overrides
* fix(cli): use reachable daemon for pairing
* fix(app): redirect invalid pair device routes
* fix(pairing): support remote host device pairing
Keep Pair Device host-relative through the existing settings and daemon RPC flow. Route CLI output through an injected adapter so workflow tests do not mutate process globals.
* fix(pairing): validate pairing destinations
Expose the host-relative Pair Device flow on every supported app platform. Reject a reachable daemon whose identity does not match the requested Paseo home before reading or mutating its pairing state.
* fix(pairing): render QR codes across platforms
Generate SVG text without DOM or canvas and render it through the existing cross-platform SVG stack.
* fix(cli): pair from persisted relay state
Allow explicit relay pairing while the daemon is stopped when relay is already enabled in persisted configuration.
* feat(settings): choose which orchestration skills to install
The skills row installed the whole bundle or nothing. A settings control
next to it now opens a sheet where you keep every bundled skill or pick a
subset, and saving converges ~/.agents, ~/.claude, and ~/.codex to it.
"All skills" reads the bundle directory instead of a hardcoded catalog, so
a skill added in a later release installs itself without another code
change. Retired bundle names stay in a separate cleanup list so old copies
on disk are still removed but never become selectable.
The selection persists under Electron user data, separate from install
state, so uninstalling does not erase the choice — a later install brings
back exactly the chosen set. Installs with no saved selection read as
"all", which is what they already had.
* Restore skill selection after failed save
* fix(settings): don't save a skill selection that never reached disk
A failed save wrote the preference, converged, then wrote the old preference
back. That leaves a window where a selection the user was told did not save
is the one on disk, and a crash inside it makes the window permanent.
Converge first and persist only on success — nothing to roll back, and a
failed save now leaves disk and preference exactly as Cancel would.
Resolving the bundle path when the command handlers are wired also broke
daemon-manager's tests: the packaged branch reads process.resourcesPath,
which is undefined outside Electron. Resolve targets per command instead —
registering handlers should not touch the environment.
* fix(settings): make skills convergence single-writer and confirm removals
Startup auto-update and the settings commands were separate writers over the
same skill directories. Either could apply a plan computed from a selection the
other had already replaced — narrow the selection while startup is repairing
drift and the repair puts the removed skill back. There is now one controller
that owns scan, apply, and persist, and every entry point queues through it, so
concurrent callers see a consistent result instead of an interleaved one.
Save also had no recovery once it had converged: if the selection could not be
committed afterwards, disk was changed while the preference still said the old
thing, and the next startup silently undid the change. Save now puts the
managed directories back to what the committed selection describes before it
reports the failure, so a failed Save lands where Cancel would.
Deselecting a skill deletes its directory in all three agent homes, including
files the user put inside it. That is now confirmed like every other
destructive action, naming the skills and the directories. Adding skills or
saving an unchanged selection still saves without a prompt, and a skill the
host has not installed yet deletes nothing so it does not prompt either.
* fix(settings): confirm removal for skills installed in only some agent homes
The removal confirmation read an `add` op as "not on disk yet". An `add` op
means "missing from at least one target", so a skill sitting in ~/.claude but
not the other two looked absent, and deselecting it deleted that directory —
with anything the user had put inside it — without asking.
The status snapshot now carries the installed skill names directly, taken from
union presence across the three agent homes, and the confirmation reads that.
`ops` keeps its one meaning.
A host that predates the field cannot say what is on disk, so the app bridge
assumes the saved selection is installed. Asking about a directory that turns
out to be absent is harmless; the reverse is not.
* fix(settings): warn about every skill directory a save deletes
The confirmation asked "was this selected before and is it selected now",
which is a different question from the one the host answers. The host
converges to the desired set and deletes every managed directory outside it,
so a skill on disk that the saved preference never mentioned — reinstalled by
hand, restored by a sync, left behind by drift — was deleted with no warning,
user files included.
The predicate now mirrors the host rule: everything installed that the draft
will not keep, regardless of what was saved before. It moved out of the sheet
into its own module so the rule has one owner and can be tested directly.
Saving with nothing to delete still does not prompt.
* fix(settings): a failed save keeps files the user added inside a skill
Save converges before it commits, and convergence deletes whole skill
directories. When the commit then failed, the recovery re-installed the
committed selection — which rebuilds the bundled files and nothing else, so
notes, hooks, and anything else the user had put inside a deselected skill
were gone for good. Cancel does not do that, and a failed save is supposed to
land where Cancel would.
Save now runs as a transaction. Before converging it stages a copy of every
managed skill directory across the three agent homes, next to the tree so the
copy stays on one filesystem. Committing drops the staging; failing anywhere
puts each directory back exactly as it was, deletes the ones the candidate had
created, and then drops the staging. Staging left by a process that died
mid-save is cleaned up by the next one.
The controller only sees begin/commit/rollback; the filesystem work lives in
skills-transaction.ts.

* fix(app): inset adaptive sheet content on compact
The compact Choose skills sheet rendered edge to edge: the All skills card
touched both screen edges, the section label was glued to it, and the skill
list ran to the edges too. Desktop was correct.
AdaptiveModalSheet expressed its content inset through
BottomSheetScrollView.contentContainerStyle. That is a library prop, not the
style prop Unistyles registers, and gorhom's scroller was never rewritten by
the Babel plugin, so on web the emitted class was never applied and the
padding and gap resolved to nothing. The desktop card uses a real ScrollView,
which Unistyles does track, which is why only compact was affected.
The inset now lives on a View the sheet owns, rendered by every presentation,
so one definition covers compact and desktop and a scroller only ever gets
theme-free layout. The caller-facing prop is contentStyle, since it no longer
lands on a scroll content container.
Choose skills drops its ad-hoc label for SettingsSection, so the label carries
the app's section rhythm instead of sitting equidistant between two cards.

* fix(chat): load older timeline history consistently
Pagination depended on scroll events, so short or compacted initial pages could never request older history. Reevaluate edge visibility as layout and history change, and standardize loading indicators on the canonical app spinner.
* fix(chat): keep older history loading reliably
Use authoritative timeline cursor progress so merged rows cannot stall pagination. Wait for bottom anchoring before evaluating the history edge, and re-arm retries on a fresh upward gesture without automatic failure loops.
Quitting the desktop app now shuts down the daemon it started, so
"restart the app" is a complete reset users can act on without first
learning what a daemon is. The old default kept it alive; the toggle
under Settings > Host still opts back in.
Existing installs already persisted `keepRunningAfterQuit: true` from
the old default, so a new default alone would only reach fresh installs.
A one-time migration resets it, and an explicit toggle afterwards
persists the migration flag and is never overridden again.
Only a desktop-managed daemon is stopped — one started with
`paseo daemon start` is left alone.
* feat(desktop): open existing agents from links
Register a stable agent deep link and route it through the existing Desktop window. Add a matching CLI command that resolves the local server and activates the requested agent without creating or messaging it.
* fix(desktop): recover agent link delivery
Module-level style composites could materialize the temporary adaptive theme before persisted settings loaded. Keep Unistyles reads in render and guard against eager module-scope access.
* fix(desktop): keep browser input out of the composer
Unhandled webview keys could be redispatched into the active host window, allowing agent Enter to submit a draft prompt. Give pages first refusal for ordinary shortcuts and contain automation at the guest boundary.

* fix(desktop): respect browser shortcut ownership
* fix(desktop): retain browser keys across windows
* fix(desktop): scope browser webviews by host
* Reshape browser shortcut ownership
Use the browser webview registry as the single guest identity authority, scope browser operations to their host window, publish chord continuations only while pending, and restore focus to the originating browser after command center dismissal.

* fix(workspace): keep focus mode scoped and easy to exit
Route focus mode through the active workspace so persisted state cannot hide chrome on settings or other screens. Add a visible exit control and keep desktop window chrome aligned and visually quiet.
* fix(app): clarify muted chrome semantics
* feat(desktop): open files in more installed editors
Detect bundled app commands as well as PATH launchers and preserve file positions through editor-specific launches.
* fix(desktop): preserve editor target compatibility
Keep existing file-manager preference ids, retain project context for file launches, and recognize Windows 64-bit IDE commands.

Clear legacy per-tab profiles after upgrades and localize the browser data settings in every supported language.
* fix(desktop): close browser profile cleanup races
* fix(app): preserve desktop layout in half-screen windows
Treat native window controls as physical corner obstructions instead of deriving clearance from compact layout state. Keep 751px windows in desktop mode while preserving usable content when persisted sidebars are wide.
* fix(app): retain sidebar width across window resizes
* fix(app): yield app sidebar to narrow settings
* test(app): wait for mobile sidebar motion to settle
* fix(app): yield navigation to narrow workspace explorer
* fix(app): mark sidebar sizing helpers as worklets
* fix(app): hide app navigation when space is constrained
* Fix shortcut capture ignoring - = ; ' keys
KEY_MAP was missing Minus/Equal/Semicolon/Quote, so
keyboardEventToComboString returned null for those physical keys and
the capture UI silently dropped them. Add the four entries with their
shifted variants.
Also suppress the Electron View > Zoom accelerators (Cmd+-/=/0) while
capturing, so those combos reach the renderer instead of zooming the
window. Driven by the existing capturingShortcut flag via a new
paseo:menu:set-capturing-shortcut IPC.
* fix: address review feedback from PR #2047
Trim the capturing useEffect so it only fires when capture is active
(removes the redundant on-mount false and the double-fire on true->false),
and reset the main-process capturingShortcut flag on renderer reload via
browser-window-created + did-finish-load so a Cmd+R mid-capture can't
leave the zoom accelerators disabled.

* feat(settings): consolidate daemon management into the host page
The app-level Daemon section and the localhost host page rendered the
same daemon card in two places. The host page is now the single home:
the Host sidebar group leads with Overview, and a desktop-only "Enable
built-in daemon" option in the host switcher recovers a removed
localhost connection. Old settings/daemon deep links redirect
(COMPAT-tagged).
* fix(settings): hide daemon recovery option when the server id probe fails
Review feedback: !query.isLoading treated an errored IPC probe as
resolved, so the recovery affordance could show without knowing the
local server id. Replace the resolved-boolean hook with a single
discriminated state hook (loading | error | resolved) — errors hide the
affordance and fall back to the settings root in the redirect. Also
collapses the two query subscriptions per caller into one.
* fix(settings): keep daemon recovery reachable when no hosts remain
Review feedback: removing localhost as the only host takes the settings
sidebar down its no-host branch, which never mounts the host picker —
so the "Enable built-in daemon" option was unreachable in the most
common recovery case. The sidebar now owns the single hook call, passes
it to the picker, and renders the same action as a sidebar row next to
"Add host" when no hosts exist.
* test(e2e): update settings host header to Overview
Test drift: the host section's sidebar/header label was intentionally
renamed to "Overview"; the spec still asserted the old "Host" title.
Also assert the retired app-level Daemon row stays absent.
* fix(diagnostics): include desktop app logs
Settings diagnostics now collect the Electron main-process log separately from daemon.log so desktop startup and environment-probe failures are included in app reports.
* refactor(desktop): share log tail reader
* fix(diagnostics): surface desktop app log read errors
